ok sorry, but am i the only one that has noticed this, that untill it has loosened up, its dissapointing but then it seems likea totaly diffrent car once it has?

OK then, back on track.. to answer the original question.
I got my 1.6 Takara with 3100 miles on the clock (ex demo) and apparently used as a runabout by the dealership manager's daughter. It was still really tight ( The car, I can't comment about the previous user!) and needed another couple of thousand on the clock including some motorway speed cruising to loosen up. It now revs more freely and yes, once you get over 3000RPM is a lot more responsive.
It can still embarrass you if you are in the wrong gear pulling away from a rolling start at roundabouts etc. because the torque is just not there at lower revs in 3rd or 4th.

yeah i know, i normal start off in 1st, in other cars you can do 2nd, but its just not worth it!
