55 Plate 3 Sport 2.0L
« on: May 11, 2009, 07:44:21 PM »
Hi all,

Have had my 3 Sport for just over two months now and have to admit I love it.

I have a question though.

When I start the car up in the morning, there is a sort of "spitting" noise coming from under the hood that I believe is related to the air-con. As it's my first motor with air-con I'm not sure if this is common or not. I do notice that this happens regardless as to whether the air-con or even the basic fan is on. Would like to get some confirmation.

Hello and welcome too ;D
I had a clicking/cracking noise on my 1.6 shortly after the engine was started, it appeared to be the climate controls setting themselves up and have the same noises on our MX 5 coupe too. Not sure if that's what it is, but its gone almost as soon a sit starts :)
However, the 1.6 also had engine rattles at start up from cold only, that disappeared after a minute or so when the oil had got round the moving parts and was I believe the hydraulic valve lifters or piston slap :-\
Hope that helps, but I am sure the forums techo wizards will come to your rescue with the right answers, as its a great forum ;D

Thanks for the quick replies.

On mine the noise lasts for maybe about 5 minutes. I'm guessing it's not a big issue as there would not appear to be any other problems.
