24hr's ownership - now with 1st pic
« on: April 08, 2009, 12:42:15 PM »
I picked up my new Black MPS aero yesterday from Preston.

My god. It is fantastic. When I arrived at the garage and walked past the car I could not stop smiling, the darker wheels look really smart with the black paint.

I drove from Preston to Lancaster and then back home to Sale. It was fantastic, loved driving it.

A few observations. Some rather insignificant, but thought I'd share...

Christ it is quick. 4th gear is unreal, one minute you are doing 60 the next you are doin 90 and I wasnt pushing it.
It really does feel the bumps, the suspension feels a lot harder than I rememeber.
Hear quite a lot of noise from the tyres, not a big problem, but noticeable.
There is a creek coming from the dash, behind the speedo, towards the windscreen heater.
The dash looks fantastic, the dials and the lights.
The stereo is superb.
Great driving position, I have never been so comfy in a car, being able to put the seat back and pull the steering wheel towards you is great.
The bonnet is longer than I remember.
Great vision out of the front and rear (obviously not from the tiny  wing mirrors)
Oh and its quite thirsty.... not that I didnt expect this.

I have this morning driven back to Lancashire  which was cool. I set off extra early just to drive it.  ;D

Question, how do you find out the MPG and access the trip computer? I havent had chance to read the manual yet.

I will post some pics tonight if i can.

Thanks

Congratulations on the new car, in glorious black.

You can get the MPG, both average and current by repeatably pressing the "info" button on the stereo system. This will cycle through the various trip computer stuff. Although the writing is tiny and I find it barely readbale.

I've also noticed a creak from the front of the car near the windscreen. I keep thinking about asking the dealer to do something about it but not done anything yet.

Anyone had anything similar and done anything about it?

Perhaps it will help you to read this http://www.mazda3forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=344.msg2778#msg2778

There are many other references to the trip computer amongst the pages on the forum. Just use the search option on the home page.

Hi,

I had an 07 plate MPs and to find the MPG figures you just pressed the info button until the MPG data was shown.

I have just bought an 09 plate version and it is different.

You need to press and hold the info button for about a second +. Then it will display info, all you need to do then is to tap the button until you get to the required info. It will stay like that until you press the clock button again. You will then have to press and hold the info button again to get back into the info screens.

Hope this helps.

The 'Info' button is on the far left end on the stereo buttons.

Oh, and from i can work out the dash creak seems to be relatively common in an MPS!!!

Obviously I am a bit biased, but black looks stunning.

The different colours in hte metalic paint makes it really stand out

The car though is fantastic.

Whilst my dad was driving it (very fast might I add) I asked how the hell people can drive one of these and a golf GTi mk5 and decided that they would prefer a golf. I have always had VW's, but when I drove the mps there was only one winner.

THe MPS really feels like something quite different from an ordinary hatch. I just love it !!!!

The info button is far left on the stereo controls, next to the clock button.

I have bought a White MPS this time, and yes, the wheels look awsome.

On a really sunny day with a really clean car, it even looks bronze! I love this colour, not only is black best, but this is the best black!  ;D
