RX8 Spark Plugs!
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:57:12 PM »
Well, the car flooded for the first time on Monday then would not start. The solution is remove the spark plugs and dry them off. So the plugs are located under the passenger wheel arch. All good so far!

Found one plug damaged so ordered some plugs from my local autoparts shop (friend of the family) turns out that the car takes two different types of plugs, leading edge and trailing edge.

Overall cost £108 for 4 plugs! I nearly fell over, and thats a discounted cost to me. Dealer quoted £38 per plug for one type and £25 for the other.

Put them in had to turn it over for ages to get  it to fire again then all was good.

So yes I can confirm that flooding is a bit of an issue if it happens and a bogger chew to get it going again.

Stuno, start saving for some plugs lol

Ouch! Your coil packs ok as flooding can damage them as well? How did it flood? Would the spark plugs not be covered by warranty at that price?

I have been quoted £450 for the top policy from warranty direct and they covered the cat as a deal sweetner. The policy states what is not covered as apposed to what is covered so easier to see what can be claimed.

Glad you got it sorted though.

The missus started it and it cut out just as she tried to pull way. Then that was it. I try and always let my cars warm through a little.

Anyway everything else seems to be fine. The next servie is due in March and thats when the plugs were due to get changed, so I suppose I have saved them a job because I certainly wont be payinf for anither set!!!!!!

I dunno...I would think they would replace them during troubleshooting on what went wrong and how to fix it...but if you bring a hand full of spark plugs in they wont replace them...im sure of it.

I see what you mean and have to say that sounds right. I suppose it is the case of reading the policy in detail!

After market policies are notorious for what they will not cover; also see if there is a limitation to any one claim amount as well ! I had a Reanault Savannah 4 speed auto years ago and a new box was £2000 ( 1993 ) all the time I had it I was on tender hooks for the box. The policy I had would not have covered the whole cost.
