Would seem to make sense to fill the hole in the middle with a 4, but what size would it be.. the 3 is already a big old car, so the 4 would be fairly big as well in between that and the 5.

Interesting thought though.... And how small would the Mazda 1 have to be!!

rotory's are rubbish....all of them... I strongly dislike engines that produce 200+ hp and about 120 ft lbs of torque... look at me im honda.

MX 9...looks like an RX8...has the seating and driving position of a MX 5...but has the new MZR-R engine and a GT3076R turbo all attached to a 6 speed tranny and AWD split of 30% to the front and 70% to the rear. 400 HP and 350 ft lbs of torque and now you just made the fastest car under 25 000 GBP.  No TCS and no DSC... have 235's on the front and 295's on the rear...wrap em around some 17's...Hire me Mazda...i will make you money!

I WANT ONE  ! ! !  ;D ;D

But in answer to the original question
will there be anything as such as a Mazda 4 ????? any ideas how that would like??

I'm almost sure that there will NEVER be a Mazda 4 because the Japanese consider the number 4 to be unlucky, so it would never sell on the home market.

But in Japan they don't use the number system for the models so it wouldn't count would it?!  ::)

Coulda: low torque isn't such an issue.  Honda is widely recognised as being excellent engineers able to compete with forced induction engines with their normally aspirated units.  I don't think Honda deserves disparaging comments when they do so much with so little!  Their engines are amazing!  If you have less torque you just need to use the revs, it suits a different driving style.  I soooo want a Jap Civic type R :D

Easy tiger!  8)

I had an RX-8 for over 2.5 years and have to say I loved it - once I had learnt to drive it properly! Once you get your head around screaming about at 9000 rpm it all makes sense. Yes, the lack of torque low down could be frustrating at times, but you just have to adapt your driving style to suit - always make sure you are in the right gear and always take it to the beep!  ::)

Not rubbish - just different. Takes some getting used to, which you will never be able to do on a 20 minute test drive. Just like all those RX-8 drivers out there slagging off the 3 MPS - YES - IT'S FWD!!!! GET USED TO IT! If you are used to driving a high-revving RWD drive car, do you really expect to jump straight into a car like the MPS and be able to driver it to is capabilities? We all know that you need significantly different driving techniques between FWD and RWD, so why do you think you can offer a valued opinion based on such limited experience? Makes me mad.....like many other things  >:(

Sorry - I'm rambling off topic here  ;D

Anyway - to recap - I disagree with Coulda's comment about rotary engines!  :P

In Japan the number 4 symbolises death - a lot of buildings just miss out the fourth floor (which makes using a lift in Japan even more confusing, as if Engrish wasn't bad enough). Anyway, chances are a Mazda Death wouldn't sell so well, even if it sounds cool.
