Bumper scratches and scuffs.. how to repair??
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:02:13 AM »
My rear bumper has quite a lot of scratches and scuffs.. i also have one big chunk of paint that came off exposing the primer.. as its a platic trim i know i dont have to worry about rust.. but i wanna get this repaired. The garage is asking in excess of £170 to get the whole thing repainted..

obviously i want to go the cheaper route..  can anyone please advise? thanks

plus VAT I suppose - ouch.. would it not be cheaper to get a new rear bumper?   No idea how to get scuffs out - my father has the same colour (albeit a Volvo) - and had a scuff on his rear bumbper, no larger than a 50p piece (that he's blaming me for? - no idea how I've done that seeing as I live 200mi away from him), and that's costing him £75+VAT to be resprayed - crazy.
Nada :/

You're a little bit past T-cut with those! I'd expect a garage to say that metallic paint is hard to match and they'll want to respray it all. If you want it done properly, you'll probably have to get it done for that.

I've already got a load of stone chips on the front of mine and I've just going to fill them in with a dab of paint. No point getting it done properly now and picking up more.

Good grief Neel what have you been up to ?. hauling hardcore ?.      Those are some serious scuffs and sratches. I agree with everything that daiking says and that you will probably need a bumper respray.

some people have been loading/unloading heavy stuff carelessly behind my back..  :'( :'(

i'll look around other garages.. but problem is the inconvinience.. most will say the job takes 3-4 days.. and that feels too long for me to be without a car..  :-\

Dont know if you got your scuffs sorted out but give these guys a try look at there website. After having my Mazda 3 for 2 weeks one sunday i spend most of the day cleaning and polishing to perfection and on driving out the driveway checking i wasnt hitting the wheelie bin i did some serious damage to the front bumper after scraping a wall took chunks out of it and everything was gutted.

Phoned them guys up at chips away and they come to your house give you a quote and if u accept they come to your home or work place and do the work for you and all i can say is excellent job cost me £140 for repairs to my bumper when i thought i would have needed a new one anyway and re painting..

Give me a day or two and i will try and post some before and after shots if you would like
anyway there website is as follows and there nationwide.

I highly recommend them from my experiences

Afte some eejut scraped my bumper I got a quote from the mazda aproved body shop of "around £150".  Chips away £129 and they filled in any bonnet chips for free.  Very good service.  I left mine with their workshop and they had it finished the same day.  No before shots I'm afraid.

Here is some of them before and after pics as promised

Before chipsaway got there hands on the car what a mess it was

And after chipsaway fixed the bumper and if you look closely at the 2nd pic you will see on the right hand side the offending bloody wall that caused the damage

Yeah all done on-site, all the stuff is in his van checks your vin plate etc for paint code. Types some stuff into his laptop and gets an accurate paint code apparently For My Mazda 3 2005 in winning blue there is 8 different variations on the actual color.

After that’s done he preps the bumper and surrounding area and finally paints it and then gets out his heaters which he places next to the bumper to bake the paint and finally a good polish and all done as good as new.

I was extremely impressed with the job and the cost for example he arrived at my house at around 10am and didn’t leave till 2pm ish so for for 4 hours work I don’t think the cost of £140 was too bad and they did sort out other small stone chips that I didn’t even notice was there free of charge…
