Bose speakers and used car warranty
« on: July 07, 2020, 02:48:57 PM »
Both door speakers rattle, dealer advises replacement. Mazda and Mazda dealer say this is not covered by the one year warranty that came with the car. Mazda have offered a goodwill payment. I am surprised by this.

Does anyone have any similar experience?

I have seen that there are corrosion issues with door speakers. The speakers have not been inspected by anyone so not clear if that is the problem, but it seems likely. I have seen You Tube fixes for this....has anyone tried this?

With a 4 year old car out of original warranty, I'd take the goodwill offer.

When I bought my car in 2019 it was just under 3 years old and the Bose speaker in the front drivers side had the same issue. The Mazda dealership did replace mine for free when I raised it with them though, probably on the 28 day warranty. Fairly common problem on Gen 3's apparently, moisture gets in and part of the unit separates.

The passenger side Bose speaker has now failed on my car and the dreaded rattle has started. The car isn't in warranty so it looks like a DIY fix or an expensive bill to replace.

I was told I Bose speakers are under extended warranty. I have looked at insurers and they have offered protection too

I've written to Mazda U.K. now and potentially there may be some form of goodwill payment towards the cost of replacing the Bose speaker. I've found a Mazda technical service bulletin from 2017 (albeit from the US) which highlights the Bose speaker bracket corrosion fault on Mazda 3's made between 2014 and late November 2015. The car never went to recall for this as it's not a safety issue but the document highlighted the problem to U.S dealerships and what they needed to do.

I don't expect miracles but if i can get some money off the repair cost it's better than nothing. First time i've ever had to have both main speakers replaced on a car under 5 years old, they obviously dropped off on this early on. Pretty annoying really.

Just had my passenger side Bose speaker replaced today free of charge so extremely happy with the outcome. As i'd already had the drivers side speaker replaced when the car was under warranty, Mazda agreed to replace the other one at no cost. I suspect that both sides should have been changed out when the car was under warranty because of the known issue with the frame corrosion but the original dealership i used didn't do this (maybe to cut costs or couldn't be arsed?).

Anyway i used another very reputable Mazda dealership instead and they have been really good with me, very helpful indeed. I can now hear music with bass again instead of what sounded like a constant farting noise coming out of the door.  :D
