Mazda 3 2019 - Fuel filler door not aligned to body.
« on: February 25, 2020, 08:26:37 PM »
Hi. Just purchased a 2019 Mazda 3 2ltr Sports Lux. Happy so far, however just noticed that the Fuel Filler Door is not aligned properly with the bodywork. Is it adjustable? Anyone else had the same problem?

Sounds like it has had a mishap prior to delivery, get the agent to fix it quick or they will blame you.

This is a known fault my dealer said they are waiting for a fix
from Mazda there is no adjustment I wouldn't hold your breath for a quick solution
as mine has been reported at least six months now.

Thanks for that. It's not really that bad and has improved since the weather has warmed up. Going to mention it when it goes in for service.

Mine was the same a month after buying it new in January and then re-aligned itself when the weather got warmer. Apparently this is a common occurrence which Mazda now have a technical service bulletin for dealers on cause and correction (Well at least on other forums with USA owners).

Cause apparently is water getting trapped between the lid and its plastic hinge mechanism which in cold weather causes expansion. Warranty mod involves the removal of the bonded lid to its frame and a slot cutting into the bottom of the plastic frame to create a drain for water/condensation build up to escape.

This apparently means a new lid has to be ordered to be re-bonded to the hinge framework and painted to match the car which is something personally I'm not keen on having done at present as obviously you run the risk of not getting exact factory colour matching. I will wait and see if the problem becomes noticeable again through winter before taking it in to be done or wait closer to the end of the 3 year warranty.
