my 2016 mazda3 developed a problem ,it would only unlock doors if fob was right next to door,,then not recognising key,,,had to start by putting fob next to start button ,replaced batteries in fobs,,no change?  went to my Mazda dealer was told he had never seen this problem before,,so booked it in for the following week it then for no reason started working properly ? if anyone has any clues on this please advise,,forgot to say car battery was fully charged

Could be contamination on battery contacts in key fob. I had similar problem on my Jaguar fob in the last century.

Had something similar with mine would not work after playing golf with the fob in my golf bag with my phone, was fine after about an hour after visiting the 19th hole.  Then one morning it didn’t work changed the fob battery and it unlocked and started ok, but as I drove away the key light on the dash was flashing red (low fob battery)but after about a mile went out and has been fine since, it was as if the fob needed a capacitor or something charging
Made it to retirement  :)
