Trying to find out what version of Audio Firmware I have
« on: December 16, 2019, 11:24:53 AM »
I’m having a problem with my phone and the Audio system on my Mazda (basically the sound keeps stuttering when playing Audio (music, podcasts etc....).

The only change is that my phone operating system has gone from iOS 12 to iOS 13, so that’s where the finger of blame lies. I’ve been in contact with Apple and we’ve tried a few things that didn’t work, so they know what to know what firmware version my car Audio has.
So how do I find it out?

I’ve done a bit of Googling and found a few suggestions (none of which work for me) but they’re not for my specific car/radio.

I’ve got a 2011 Mazda 3 TS2, with (what I believe is) the default audio system. (Picture attached)

Thanks In Advance

I used to have this stereo been through it forwards and backwards many times never seen an option to view firmware.

If I'm honest I don't think it's that advanced, as it was I placed mine neatly in the bin and fitted an android auto/carplay unit.

I had this issue was when I switched to a galaxy S8 with bluetooth 5, the Mazda is bluetooth 2 or there abouts so it had a hard time and skipped a lot. Samsung eventually fixed via a firmware update to the phone, but there's not much you can do car side.

I'm genuinly thinking of doing that now that I have far more spare time with this lockdown thing.

How complex a job is it and what's the rought cost?

In my case it was 310 quid for the unit (Pioneer DAB230) plus say 50-75 for fascia and wiring adaptors and a dab aerial and I got it fitted so whole lot was 500.

Eonon do a specific fit for Mazda 3 which is cheaper and on paper has far more features and would save the adaptors but you can't move it on if you sell the car and buy a none mazda 3 and they also don't have a great reputation for working long term

Mine in situ:

You can get much cheaper none touchscreen stuff obviously if all you want is competent bluetooth streaming and a DAB upgrade.
