Part X’d my MPS
« on: September 07, 2019, 10:37:50 PM »
After 9yrs and 115k+ miles I finally part exchanged my MPS.

tbh I probably held on to for too long because I simply enjoyed the power and drive, and couldn’t think of another car that I’d want instead.  In any case, my financial situation spurred me into giving it up and I’ve switched to a used Focus Titanium 1.6 diesel.  One of the immediate pros for me is that the Focus is £20 to tax, compared to £325 road tax I would have  been paying next month if I’d kept it (along with a suspension arm that needed fixing to pass MOT).

Anyway, the MPS was very nice and despite the money I threw at it, I loved it.

Hi Sian    Sorry to see the demise of another MPS.  Hope you get as much fun from the Focus.

I think I kept it for long enough and did enough miles don’t you agree? ;D

For a performance car, that's a decent mileage.  I've only done just over 65k in more than 13 years of ownership of my 1.6 petrol Mazda3!  Well, your fuel bills (as well as the VED) will now be plummeting!  Just make sure you keep the DPF in good nick by doing enough regular decent length runs (passive regens) and when you stop, don't turn the engine off immediately, but open the door, give a sniff form under the car (well, nearby) to see if you can smell 'burning', which is the DPF actively regenning, and leave the car running or go back out and drive around until that burning smell goes away (when pulled over) when the active regen completes.

I'm sure you'll be aware that you'll still need to idle the engine after a (long) trip on the motorway or when lugging heavy loads so that the turbo can cool down (whilst the cooling oil is still circulating), just like on your old car.  Best of luck with the new car.

Thanks for the advice 🙂
Yeah taxing the focus cost me a whole £20 😂 and the comparable fuel economy I’m getting is now 55mpg compared to 31mpg.
Things I miss about the MPS so far.. obviously the power but it’s not like I’m hankering over it, and the position of the handbrake 😂 after having done so many miles and years in the MPS, I’m having trouble getting used to the handbrake being next to me rather than being on the “other” side
