Mazda recalls 2.2 million cars over tailgate issue

Yeah very odd , in my case they asked me if I want to replace them . I said yes because why not , new is new regardless the condition of the old one 

To be honest , if some Japanese engineer said that they have to be replaced , then they should , right ??

If they show any signs of getting worse take it back but they don't have any corrosion on them so I can see why they haven't.

I received a driver and vehicle standards agency/Mazda marked letter about it 2 weeks before my service was due. Came direct from Mazda UK head office apparently.

They obviously aren't in a hurry about it given I remember reading about it on here while I was on honeymoon last September and giving the struts a look over then.

Hi all just had my safety recall letter for the tailgate support struts but also a recall for the drivers seat security.the first issue relates to the drivers seat where the adjuster link may be cracked or the securing nuts may become detached. Has anyone had both recalls in the same letter ?.

Yep got mine today with both issues listed. I knew about the tailgate struts but haven't heard anything about the drivers seat issue. Anyway i'll be booking in at Bolton Mazda tomorrow to get both sorted although I must admit there appears to be no issues with either on my car. Visually at least, my tailgate struts look in perfect condition.

I got the recall the other day. I checked the struts and they look just fine, will book it into the dealers in a few weeks once the initial flurry calms down. First time it will have been to a main dealer in 70000 miles!

My local dealership won't have the parts for a month so i'll be waiting on a call back. As it happens I've lost all sound from the Bose system so it's going in next week anyway. Never been to a Mazda dealership with this car since I bought it off one 4 years ago.....

I got my struts done about a month ago, had to leave the car with them most of the day as they couldn't give a a definite slot, but I think the work only took 1-2hrs in the end.

Car got a wash and vac too which was good and probably the more urgent job that needed doing

I took my Mazda 3 to the dealer last Friday (20th) after receiving the notification a couple of weeks before. Notification stated struts need replacing due to: "the rustproof coating may be insufficient". Also drivers seat "adjuster link may be cracked or the securing nuts may become detached".

I asked the dealer about the procedure and they said they change the struts regardless of their condition (mine looked perfect) and they check the seat for the faults and rectify them. They have done the job ok but I have an issue with the damage to the trim when they removed the seat. There are gouge marks on the door sill plastic plate and the plastic trim which runs up the center pillar. I have called them and they said bring it in and we'll have a look, although I can't see what they can do apart from replacing the trim panels.

I had the same thing when another Mazda dealer had to replace the heated seat element, also the drivers side. It would seem it must be a bit of a job to get the seat out. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I being a bit too fussy? I would welcome your opinions on this.

 Hi.  I hope that someone on here can offer some advice.  Have a mazda 3 1.6 takuya 2011 and have the problem that the seat recall (that was mentioned above), should have covered. The push nuts have come off and the seat is now loose and damaged the connecting bar.  Never had a recall so contacted mazda and they say recall doesn't cover my vehicle and repair would be chargeable.  Think this is unfair as it is a known problem.  Does anyone else have a 2011 that got the recall?  Thanks in advance.  JAMES

I suggest that you check these before you go any further.    Make careful note of dates and VIN ranges affected.     

This topic is related to tailgate recalls not seats.  If you find that your car is subject to a seat recall after checking the above, then I suggest you start a new topic in Interior Trim

Thanks for your reply.  Sorry if I should have started a new post.
The problem is that it is just out of the recall range so not sure a lot can be done.  Just seems unfair that they will charge a lot of money to fix something that is clearly a known problem.
