Engine valve clearance
« on: January 24, 2019, 09:10:38 PM »
Hi everyone,

my zoom-zoom is due a 75k service and from what I can see in the maintenance table it includes:

Engine valve clearance
Audible inspect every 120,000 km (75,000 miles), if noisy, adjust

So I contacted my local Mazda dealer, just to get an idea of what it might cost, and their response seems totally contradictory:
'I have checked with our workshop and they confirm that your vehicle has a hydraulic lifter which means they are self adjusting and as a result of this an engine valve clearance check is not necessary.'

I would be very grateful for some clarification in this matter :o To check it or not to check it?

P.S. How noisy the tappets would be anyway? Apart from noisiness, would there be any other obvious, unmistakable sign that they are out of adjustment?

Thank you!

Cheers,
Mike
