Cruise control on 2010 Mazda 3 1.6
« on: September 16, 2018, 08:02:51 PM »
Just managed to get cruise control working and activated on a 2010 1.6 Mazda 3.

Process was pretty simple as noted on various forums.

1.  Replaced the steering wheel with one that has the cruise buttons.
Reasonably easy to do and just take your time.

2.  Bought the brake switch with the four pins which is needed for cruise control to work.
It looked a pain to replace so gave to the dealer mentioned in point 3.

3.  Took it to Mazda dealer, Barnetts in Dundee, who although they had never done a cruise activation were happy to try it.
They tried activating the cruise in the BCM....but it gave a brake switch error.  They then swapped out the brake switch with the new one and tried the cruise activation again.

They then took it out for a test drive and everything worked perfectly.

Costs....
Steering wheel off Ebay with cruise buttons - £50.
Brake switch with 4 pins off Ebay - £10.
Activation by Barnetts - £108 - this included fitting the brake switch.
Total cost is then £168 for fully functional cruise control on a 2010 Mazda 3 1.6.

Brill!

Excellent work! Thank you for the guide. Could be useful to others who pick up a bargain without cruise control but may wish to add it as a desirable.

I guess you would have to declare this as a modification to your insurer. Does it make a difference (either positive or negative) to your premium?
So I was stood there trying to work out why the cricket ball was getting larger and larger...and then it hit me.
