Loving the car and the drive home from picking it up (Mazda 3, 2009, 2.2 diesel 185).

I usually rely on the car clock for arriving at work, see if I'm on time/late etc...

However I've read the manual, played with all the settings, and can't seem to set the time. Am I being incredibly thick/missing something obvious?

The only place I can see any sort of clock or time is in the top right of the built in satnav. There doesn't appear to be one on the radio display or on the actual dashboard?

The dashboard/centre console has a "H:M:12/24hr" set of buttons, which just beep if i press them or hold them down, they don't adjust any clock (that I can see).

Is there some other clock/time that I'm missing? Is the one in the satnav the only one?

And if so how do I set the time on it? it currently just displays "--:--".

I looked in the settings for the satnav, and there's a time zone setting. There's also a "automatic adjust time" option which is greyed out.

On mine those buttons do it? I don't have Nav though. The screen to the right of the climate display has the clock on it.

On mine it's literally just a short press of the button = 1 minute or hour and holding cycles it.

On nav equipped cars it's apparently hidden in the settings/calibration.

Well, been messing about with this since Saturday and it seems like it just doesn't want to work.

The satnav screen is supposedly where the time is shown.

All it shows for me is "--:--"

According to the manual the time is not shown when no gps signal is being received. But the satnav itself is working fine so it must be getting gps.

No idea what's up with it but it's annoying.

On mine, in the settings menu, the clock tab gives you two options. To set the time manually or to synchronise with the GPS. does yours?

Actually, I think I figured it out, the satnav ISN'T getting a GPS signal. Despite it "tracking" where I am... (I think the software knows my location and uses the internal software rather than GPS position to work out where I'm moving).

So I guess next question I'll go searching for is how to replace/repair the GPS receiver.

I assume you have the Gen 2 car. I have had one since 2009 and can assure you that the dashboard/centre console  "H:M:12/24hr" set of buttons resets the clock. I have never found any other way so if there is a fault on your car it is there, not the GPS.

It is annoying to do a manual reset twice a year re summer time - on a GPS system that would be automatic.

For information this system is in some ways better than current ones because it uses GPS signals, a speed sensor and gyrosensor. So it will indeed keep an accurate position without GPS for a while (even after the car has been parked) but without GPS at some point the position will become increasingly inaccurate. For example the speed and distance measurements on a car will never be 100% accurate. If the position is spot on after a long trip it is highly likely that GPS is working correctly.

Yes it is a gen2... 2.2 diesel sport... Pretty sure it is the GPS receiver that is not working... looks like prior to me obtaining the car someone did a "manual adjust location" onthe unit, and it appeared to be working... but having done a few long journeys it no longer has any idea of where I am.

Unless I am being completely daft, there is nowhere on the dash that shows the clock other than on the satnav unit.

I've uploaded some pics to flickr to show it.

Have you tried looking for the correct manual for your car  ( By VIN Number )   on the Mazda website here   https://www.mazda.co.uk/buying-owning/product-features-and-manuals/#
