Thinking of getting a Mazda 3 1.6 Automatic - Any good?
« on: August 10, 2018, 11:51:54 PM »
I am hoping to replace my aging Mazda 323 2 litre diesel for a Mazda 3. Looking for an automatic 1.6 petrol model probably a 2008-09 model. Few questions, how good and how reliable are the automatic boxes on these models?  and what type of mpg is to be expected for journeys and for town use?

The gearbox is a traditional 4 speed slushbox as a result they should be robust but don't expect DSG style performance and efficiency.

The 1.6 with a manual is not the most rapid of start points, with an auto I can imagine it being pretty leisurely when joining major roads. Obviously if you are going to use for round the doors style stuff it's probably going to be fine for that but A road overtaking and joining the motorway would probably not be it's forte.

Finally efficiency wise I'd expect at best mid 30s mpg on average the manuals can hit low 40s but the traditional torque converter box on a small revvy engine is not a combo for efficiency.
