Trouble connecting to iPod
« on: July 04, 2018, 07:40:05 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have had my new Mazda 3 (2.2L SE-L Nav) for about six weeks; a couple of weeks ago it went into the dealership to have a couple of minor bits and bobs done which included a software update of the music system.

Since then I have been having a lot of trouble connecting my iPod to the infotainment system. Often it doesn't connect at all and on the occasions it does it takes quite a long time for the system to recognise it (usually eventually connects only when my phone is connected to the other USB port).

When it is connected I cannot scroll through and select songs/artist etc. through the infotainment menu as these options are blanked out; it will only play what was last selected on the iPod.

I have phoned the dealership who could not offer me any advice over the phone, only to bring it in, but as it is 30 miles away I am reluctant to do so if there is a simple solution.

My guess is it is because I am not using a genuine Apple cable? But don't want to go out and buy a new cable if it might be something else.

Anyone else experienced this and/or could offer any advice? Many thanks.

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately I don't have your particular car so I can't provide any specific advice.

I would have some questions which would be did it work before it was updated? Also do you have the latest firmware now which I believe starts with 56 on the version number?

I wouldn't have thought the cable would make a difference unless it's a terrible quality EBay one, if it works when connected to a p.c. or other thing then there's no reason it'd be stopping it working.

I had problems with the infotainment on my previously owned Mazda 6.  It seems software updates cure one problem but create another.  We've never updated the software on our 2015 Mazda 3 cos, generally, it works ok.  Take it back to the dealer and let them try again.  Or if you really want to rule out the non-genuine cable - could you borrow a genuine one from someone for a couple of days?

Thanks for the welcome. I was passing a dealership yesterday so took it in on the off chance; apparently the software update that was done a fortnight ago was replaced by a newer update barely days later. Had it updated again and fingers crossed everything is working fine now. Many thanks for the advice.
