Bit the bullet!!
« on: May 08, 2018, 10:10:15 PM »
Well today I finally bit the bullet and put a deposit down on a 2016 Sport Nav to replace my current 2008 Sport. I'm not usually one to travel such a long distance to collect a car that i've not given a good once over, so will have to arrive bright and early to do so on Saturday when I collect it! Can't wait :)

Thanks :)

I'm hoping that the new one is as reliable as my 08 Plate one!

Has been a great car for the last 3 & 1/2 years.

Well..... has been a bit of a strange day today. Confirmed times for collection tomorrow late yesterday afternoon as it's quite some distance from my house to the particular dealership that I was buying from. Note the word "was"........

This morning I received an email "..... Please call me regarding the mazda 3.." I was at work so called when I could. At this point, things started to go a little weird. The salesperson advised me that "the car went into the workshop in preparation for you to collect tomorrow, and they found that it needs £2000 worth of repairs. We will need to refund your deposit." They were not very forthcoming with any information on the required repairs and upon questioning they declined to answer.

I felt something was not quite right with their explanation so had a look on their website and found the car that I was buying was now relisted for sale with a price tag £2k more than advertised when I had placed my deposit. Obviously I questioned this and the response I received back was "Our advertising department would have put the car back on the website once the sale had been cancelled with the figures including the repair cost, we have already contacted them to let them know that the vehicle has been rejected so the car will be taken off the website soon"

I smell a rat and feel fobbed off and lied too. My partner had taken the day off tomorrow to come and collect out new car with me and we were both excited about it, now completely let down.  Not a happy bunny to say the least. I didn't expect that from a Mazda main dealer.

So looks like I am keeping the 2008 Sport for a while now.

Sorry to hear that.  It does sound fishy they wont tell you what is wrong with the car, a 2016 car they have up for sale and only just noticed £2000 worth of repairs the day before you pick it up. Why didn't they just say what was wrong with the car and explain  your deal with them is cancelled and the car would be going back on sale at a higher price, basically be honest about it. . Not asking how much the car was but was it £2000 under priced and to much of a bargain or about  the average price for year and mileage?   I don't know where you stand legally regarding your deposit but i guess you would have  had the right to cancel if you test drove the car and didn't like or changed your mind.
Sorry to hear that I hope you find a better car for sale locally.

It wasn't particularly under priced. Certainly not 2k under priced. Basically, there's one locally at £13,750 and the one I was purchasing was £11,490 (now £13,490) both cars are 2.0 Sport Nav's  (120bhp) and are the same year. Now, the difference in the price I assumed was because the local car has only 10k miles on it, where as the one I was purchasing had 24k miles on the clock. So I would have thought that the cheaper car was cheaper as it had 14k more miles on it. Then there is location, cars are usually slightly higher in price in my neck of the woods which is why I don't mind traveling to buy a car, intact my current 3 came from nearly 300 miles away (yes that was a long days drive when I collected it!) So geographically, unexpected the cheaper car to be cheaper for that reason and for the higher miles.

Now, strangely, the local one seems unusually good value!
