Software/firmware update info
« on: May 06, 2018, 09:39:12 AM »
Hi,

Took my 2014 Mazda Sport Nav in for its 50,000 mile service at Colchester Mazda dealer, I asked them if they would do a software/firmware update on my MZ connect OS as it is on 59.00.502 EU N as it states on the Mazda site the latest version is 55.00.650, basically they told me they will not do updates unless I have an issue with my system >:( is this correct, should Mazda not just do the update if a new version comes out ?

Print this page and take it along to your dealer. Point out the Please Note  top right of the page. Then see what they have to say.

Other than that the up dating of your Nav software and your Gracenote database is your responsibility using the Mazda Toolbox.

Isn't 59.00.502 EU N newer than 55.00.650? My car is on 56.00.513 EU N and when I asked if there were any updates when it was serviced last September, I was told there weren't. Of course, you have to accept that the default setting for most Mazda dealers appears to be to lie through their teeth, so I'll ask the same question before the next service. That said, it would be nice to know if there are any advantages to the updates. If it ain't broke...….. :)

This link takes you to the latest firmware (allegedly), but I don't think I'll be trying it. https://my.hidrive.com/share/hsodpqja.l#$/

Am I correct in saying the software updates are always free?

As far as I'm aware the software update should be a service item and is included in the service costs.
Not sure if you try and get it updated outside of a service. But if its causing issues and car is under warranty they may look at it for you. Should only take 30-40 minutes.

The updates are good as the update on my previous car vastly improved the reliability (random crashing) and connectivity to my iPod.

Although it cost me a week or so as when they tried updating it they fried the chip and had to get a new one from Japan. But not too sure how much of that I believe.

You can also update it yourself, there are videos on YouTube telling you what to do. But there is a point where the car is not allowed to switch itself off/go into standby or it will crash the update. Which is what I think my dealer (Ipswich Donalds) did.

Thanks.
I did the last update through the Mazda tool box OK and it improved it.
From that I get camera warnings, which I didn't get b/4.
But now I'm out of warranty, and wondered if I can get another update free

You're mixing up SatNav updates, which you'll get free for 3 years then you have to pay, with the operating system updates which should be free and carried out when the car's serviced.

I updated via Toolbox last night and there have definitely been improvements with the navigation. Have yet to see if a road change has been implemented on the maps which was opened about 3 years or more ago though.

Not getting the speed camera alerts though as bobmax has reported even though my labels are set to overlay them. Hmmmm...............

Just had my Gen 3 1.5D first service done.

The dealer did a software update, as part of the service. They said the update was to do with the DPF system. Will see if it affects the DPF re-gen process or anything else noticeable.

Now that's done, I will update the Gracenote database and see if that works now. (Never works on DAB Radio or Hi-Res Music Player, sometimes with CD's).
