Key Fob / Alarm / Door Locking Intermitent
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:28:31 AM »
For a few weeks I've been having intermittent issues with the key fobs / alarm / door locking on my 2007 Mazda 3 Sport.

I find myself in the situation where both my key fobs will only lock/unlock the doors (and turn the alarm on/off) intermittently.   One of them started playing up about a year or so ago and changing the batteries made no difference.   The second one started playing up a few weeks ago.   Changing the batteries made no difference.

I had a car locks specialist come round to take a look and they checked both key fobs and said the signal was good in both and there wasn't much they could do. I asked about a new key and was given a cost of about £180 for both parts....!  >:(   When I asked about the receiving part of the system they didn't want to know and said they couldn't help.

I have bought a second hand key off Ebay from a used parts dealer.  I reprogrammed the system to accept the new key (and the existing ones), and the same problem persists.   Also changed battery in this one too. So I now have 3 key fobs all with the same symptons.

This leads me to suspect that the issue maybe on the receiving end and not with the key fobs.

Does anyone have any experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting the receiving part of the security system which is presumably the alarm system. I'm guessing that its not an easy task.

Any thoughts on solving the issue?

The car is 11 years old with 220,000 miles on the clock. I don't particularly want to take it to my local dealer as my experiences with them are not great and the costs will be astronomical.  I've had the car from new and it has been a superb car for reliability.

The key fob issue whilst I could live with it, is really annoying, not least because if I use the key to unlock the car, the alarm will go off until I start the engine.  I'd really like to get this fixed.

Thanks.

Nick.
