New to me Mazda Sport
« on: April 17, 2018, 01:57:38 PM »
Hi all, just joined the forum.
I now own a Mazda Sport and am pretty pleased with it. The spec is nice (leather, Bose etc) but for a 150bhp car the engine response is a little disappointing. It does seem to have improved since I got it - i might be imagining this or perhaps am getting used to the power delivery - does the ECU learn driving styles? The car needs a service so maybe that and new plugs will help....I've read about grounding the throttle body too, is this just snake oil or worth doing?

Depending on how long it's been since it was serviced poor plugs and a dirty air filter will sap a bit of power.

They aren't exactly a fast car tbf 0-60 in 9s makes as fast as a warm fiesta/our Citroen C3 so not entirely sure what the expectation is?

If it has previously been used gently on short trips it might explain it getting faster with use. If you're using it harder than the previous owner there's a good chance winding it up is giving it a bit of a decoke. Might be worth running a bottle of injector cleaner or similar through it once it's been serviced and applying an Italian tune up.

Cool, pretty much as I thought. I've bought the service bits from ECP with new plugs so we'll see if that improves it. The 3 is replacing a MK1 Focus 1.8 Zetec and although it's much better 50mph and up than the Ford, the Focus was more free revving and felt better lower down. I'll get used to car, I like it. Our other car is a 5 litre V8, so that provides the kicks ;)

I changed the plugs and air filter at the weekend, and gave the maf a clean. Happily the car feels more perky now, the old plugs were the wrong ones!!

That wasn't going to help.  Glad it's sorted.
