2012 Mazda 3 with 4.1"Satnav
« on: January 10, 2018, 06:47:29 PM »
Hi All,

Might not be the best sub-forum, please shift if not.

I have the 2012 facelift Mazda 3 Sport Nav which features the small 4.1" Satnav integrated into the dash (sort of left behind the steering wheel) and not the bigger 5.8" centre console TomTom version.

Just curious how others had got on with updating this? From a few Twitter interactions and a call to Mazda UK it seems that the SD card for this cannot be removed and updated via a PC, only a new SD card purchased for £250 online (https://www.mazda.co.uk/buying-owning/accessories/mazda3/2011-07/infotainment/BCD166EZ1J/#ZPyp1PWesH9HRWwQ.97) with the latest version available being 2014 maps! This is a crying shame and leaves what was an expensive option being rather useless only 2 years after the car was manufactured :-[

Does anyone have any solutions that don't involve an external Satnav unit? :)

Thanks,

PT

Mines a 2009 and you can get the SD card out (it’s near the screen). I removed it about 5 years ago, worked out the data was supplied by navteq (I think) but couldn’t find any updates from what I shall refer to as alternative sources after seeing the Mazda prices. I’ve just learnt to deal with it and make sure a I have a map book newer than 2009 if times get desperate  :D

So.  Not having a sat Nav in my 2004 car LOL   Does the Sat Nav continue to work even though it has not been up dated ?
Look at life through the windscreen, not the rearview mirror.

It does work still, just annoying especially with the pace of house building in my town so would've been nice to get it updated somehow. I assume this 4.1" satnav uses some propriety mapping service and not one like Navteq on the 1st gen Mazda 3's?

Maybe my OCD will just have to live with this out of date mapping!
