It looks good although I don’t know where normal cars went wrong to need crossover coupes type vehicles. I like this bit

“Powertrain is one of the issues. People see the image of this vehicle as sporty, so the powertrain needs to generate more. But so far we [Mazda Europe] don’t have any powertrain to generate the big power."

I guess they don’t want to go back on their naturally aspirated route but a bigger engine will struggle to meet regulation and power requirement. I think turbo’s definitely have a place and a twin turbo  version of the 2 litre in the 3 should sort the Germans rivals out. Plus they’ve then sorted an engine for the mps and get on with making it

They've had access to the 2.5l skyactive engines used in U.S. who have more stringent emissions regs than us in some states forever, there's also a none turbo 2.3 we never got.

Regards this..it's a nice looking thing for what it is i'm sure people would buy it. I wouldn't but I just see all soft roaders as a homogenous brown smear. They make good business sense, you build a car with the same components as a hatch and charge 2-3k more than people would pay for an ordinary one. But I've never seen the appeal.

Haven't hatches struggled to catch on in the US; presumably the SUV coupe is the Frankenstein outcome of market research over there but isn't for me I'm afraid. Hadn't seen the release before though so liked the heads up :)
