Upgraded from Mk2 Sport to Mk3 Sport 165
« on: January 23, 2017, 01:40:25 PM »
Just acquired a 2016 Sport 165 and it's a quantum leap from the old Mk2 Sport. Went for the 165 for a 10% increase in power over the Mk2, rather a 20% loss in power of the standard Mk 3 2.0 Sport. Looks like they still haven't completely resolved the Sat Nav issues though! More of that in the appropriate section.

Hi - I've not yet had a chance to drive it in such a way to make a fair comparison, but first impressions are good. I'll get back later.

I'm just about to go the same route as this looking to upgrade from my Gen 2 sport 2.0l to a Gen 3 Sport 2.0l 165. I've had a test drive in a snowflake white 2015 one with 10.000 miles on it and the smile on my face only went after getting out of the car Its definitely a step up in every way from the Gen 2. The only question I have to resolve is I've owned the first 2 generations of 3 sports in Velocity red and I loved that colour. So do I wait for a low mileage Soul red model to come on the market? or have a change and take the white car?

Do you like washing your car every week without fail? If not wait for red. White looks really good clean but is a mare..

The comments on white are noted.
I am quite OCD when it comes to keeping my car clean and waxed. It gets washed every week, a full 3 stage polish every few months and general top up of the wax coat after a few washes, so on that score I don't think White would be an issue for me. I think the pearlescent white looks clean and bright but I'm not sure you can get it to quite the deep reflective shine the metallic reds buff up to?  Red looks a bit more sporty while white looks very smart and stylish. It is a difficult choice but yes it would be a wrench for me to break away from a red Mazda 3 although Soul Red seems to be darker and more maroon looking in certain lights than the good old bright velocity red.

I'm very much a fan of the white, but a deep shine isn't really an option. Basically if it's clean and shiny and sun hits it the sheer brightness of the gold fleck/whiteness means it has no reflection.

You can just see the reflection of parking lines in the lower wing but the top part looks like it isn't shiny.

In shaded/early evening conditions rather than full sun looks very nice though. Also hides dents like a champ..

That's very nice I have to say that I think white suits the shape of the Gen 2 perhaps a little more than the Gen 3.

Needs the right spec to carry it in my opinion. Saw a sport gen 3 on 18s and that looks good (I may get the black edition when I replaced mine with a newer one). Much like the gen 2 white and 16s looks a little limp.

Well I've just put a deposit on a 2015 Gen 3 Sport 2.0 in Snowflake white mica
So I hope I've done the right thing ?

To be honest they had a Sport 2.2D in Soul Red sat opposite the one I'm buying on the forecourt and in today's bright sunlight I was stood there comparing the two colours. Both cars had a layer of dust on them and while the Soul Red did look extra glossy its darker tones definitely hasn't quite got the pop to it of my current gen 2 sport Velocity Red. Stood back looking at them both the Pearlescent white of the 2.0 sport made it stand out more and just convinced me the upgrade to a gen3 should also mean for me a complete change of colour.

I pick it up in a weeks time, so will be back here to post my thoughts on my new Mazda :)

When I was test-driving a mk3 and a CX-3 a few months ago, there were quite a few Mazdas in the showroom that were white.  Looks very nice with the black alloys and skirting, though probably not so good after bad weather!  Saw a viery nice-looking 2015 3 Sport saloon near work (back in May 2015) than had gone for a song (£15,750 showroom car with under 500 miles on the clock) - I was sorely tempted to go for it despite the firmer ride, given the huge discount.  A shame Mazda wouldn't consider making (or at least importing it to the UK) the 165 Sport in a saloon (and with an option of reducing the wheels/tyres down to 16in at no cost), similarly with them withdrawing the auto version from the saloon range completely.  Oh well - you can't have everything I suppose!
