6 year service
« on: December 11, 2016, 09:18:06 PM »
Hi guys first post so easy tigers 🙂 Just got Mazda 3 sport 2.2 d 41k on the clock 59 plate I'm between services 36k and 50k when I rang Mazda they recommended a 6 year service at an eye watering 700 pounds this includes rocker gasket change ( sorry I know nothing about cars) and injector pipes changed plus other things he mentioned question is do I need this would a service suffice with quite low mileage for the year. ??

Thanks in advance

Whatever way you cut it year 6 is a big one. The car has several things that are done yearly (oil and filter), 2 yearly (cabin filter and brake fluid) and 3 yearly (coolant and air filter) all of these happen together on year 6 as well as some special once every 6 year stuff! I don't have the diesel which I seem to recall from previous posts on here the 2.2 gets the injectors removed and checked which requires the single use washers replaced at the same time would guess the top the engine needs to be off hence the new gasket. Mines a petrol and the service stands at 400 as the injectors don't come out but I need a new set of 100 quid spark plugs apparently.

By all means ring around but it's not the 1st time someone has posted on here with a similar figure for a 6 year service on a 2.2 d. Can't answer whether or not the car will need it probably depends on previous history.

I tried searching the thread but you can't search for the number 6...so it's a bit of a trial.

From memory some dealers treat the injectors as "elective" work which brings the cost down to about 400 or so but you would think Mazda included it in the schedule for a reason.

Edit: found one

I have a 2013 1.6D and on a Mazda service plan. For the year 6 service, I have been quoted £400, so your £700 quote looks very expensive. Like you said, it might be due to the rocker gasket change. Check with them whether that is a compulsory item or optional item.

Bear in mind that the 1.6d is totally different (ford/Citroen) engine so not really comparable.

All of the pieces that get replaced are because they take the top off to check the valve clearance and the injectors out to check and need to replace things disturbed in the process.

However whether or not it's necessary at such a low mileage is another question.

10 years or 120k mile for changes if your car has FL22 coolant or it's 4 years initially then every 2 if it doesn't (in my 1st post I said 3 years).

Yes look at coolant filler tank if ways fl22  and its never had a leak and been topped up with water instead of fl22 premixed coolant All should be good.

09 plate 2.2D owner. Had the car from 4K now 120k. I do remember Mazda quote for this service (at 75k in my case) but I was already using a local Mazda specialist and they weren't particularly bothered about Mazda recommendations here. Just oil filters fluids etc.

That what I leaning towards he did offer 3 different service options just if the injectors and gasket rocker are things that cause issues in Mazda I would rather sort it now than further down the line 👍
