Sat Nav Update?
« on: October 25, 2016, 05:28:53 PM »
Hope I got the correct forum?
I'm due an update to my Gen3 Sat Nav, but not sure how to do it?
I found an Aussie tutorial on you-tube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWibOL6F4EE&feature=youtu.be
but obviously I need a UK tutorial (unless they're the same instructions?).
Can someone help me please?
My 3 has one more year warranty.

Get the dealer to do it when it's in for a service. Mazda Toolbox does not work on Mac or Chromebook so I have no choice but to use the dealer.

Update using the Mazda Toolbox:-  https://mazda-na.naviextras.com/shop/portal/downloads

Thanks.
Is it straight forward in the toolbox, are there instructions to follow?

I did ask them when I booked it in, but he said I have to do it on my PC ::)
I'd like to have a go myself for the experience, so will download the toolbox and hope for the best :D

Thank you both for replying. :)

Looks like it might now work on Apple(?) but not Chrome devices
•   Windows 7
•   Windows 8
•   Windows 10
•   OSX 10.8 or later

It's not the greatest piece of software, but reasonably easy to do. Just make sure you allow a good hour or 3 depending on your internet connection.

It's fairly straight forward, but your pc needs to (be modern enough to) have an sd card reader.
Download the programme and install onto your pc.
Remove the sd card from the centre armrest cubby in the car.
Open the programme and follow the instructions.  It'll ask you to register, and at some point it'll ask you to insert the sd card.
You can (or maybe it forces you to?) make a back-up of the sd card.  If your original goes faulty you can copy all the info onto a new card.  (Note that a 'new' card will only work in your particular car, just like the original does).
Follow the instructions and wait while it downloads the new map and installs it.
You have plenty time to make and drink at least one cup of tea while it does all this BTW.

My last install of new maps took nearly 4 hours, that's with an i5 processor, SSD hard disk, 8Gb memory and running Win 10 with Virgin broadband up to 200Mbps, most of the delay seems to be in unpacking the map and copying it to the memory card

The dealer tried to put me off in Feb 2015 because he'd never done it before. Some 2 months later he phoned to say he could now do it. It only took about 20 minutes! He updated it again last February whilst in for a service.

Damn!!!
I've just tried updating for an hour, then it stated a fault with downloading try again.
This I did twice, but eventually it disconnected.
What a rig-moral. >:(
Looks like I'll have to get the dealer to try.

Perhaps he is just copying from already unpacked data copying files from a disk to the card then tweaking it with you details and the car details
