Whats everyone's car cleaning routine?
« on: November 16, 2015, 07:48:36 PM »
Hello all,

Thought this might be a fun little thread to create to see what everyone's car cleaning consists of, also so that we can all share our own techniques and products that we use  :)

I'll start of with mine. I typically clean my car once every two weeks and it usually takes me around 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

- Firstly I clean all the glass inside the car using a microfibre cloth.
- Then I hoover everywhere, boot, seats, headlining, dash etc.
- Wash the car using triplex wash and wax using a sheepskin mitt (http://goo.gl/UuxzWW) and two buckets, one with the shampoo in and the other for rinsing. Including washing inside door trims and hinges and all those other places.
- After that, its a case of cleaning the alloys using Greased Lightning One Minute Wheels and a wheel brush.(http://goo.gl/elI7La)
- Rinse off the bodywork and alloys using the hose.
- Chamois water away.
- Now comes the best part, use Showroom shine across the whole car: Metal, plastic, glass etc. This stuff is absolutely amazing, not only does it clean away any tough dirt I may have missed earlier on, it adds polish as well too protect the paintwork and make it shine like new. Also, when it rains, the water simply beads of the car. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (http://goo.gl/C8ifHb)
- Use tyre blackner on tyre walls.
- Now comes the maintenance part: checking tyre pressure, oil level, all other fluid levels.

And that concludes my fortnightly clean of my girl!

Every now and then, I also hoover out the engine bay and clean under there.

Why do you clean the glass first? not better to do the glass last? I normally do wheels first then body work and finish off with all the interior, finally do the  inner and outer glass

Mine gets washed once a week, so initially rinsed with hot water and autoglym shampoo to loosen dirt, then washed with a lambs wool mitt (with more shampoo), rinsing as I go. It then gets dried with a meguiars drying cloth (if I'm not expecting rain) and I use glass cleaner on the windows.

Once a season I do a full polish, seal and wax it doesn't need it more often than that with it being washed weekly and also being supagarded.

Why do you clean the glass first?

By the glass first I mean't to say the interior glass, should've made that more clear. I do the exterior glass along with the showroom shine.  :)

I think I've said enough about my routine here to not want to be flamed again. ::)

No scratches, paint blasts, scores, flaking lumps of paint or plastic yet. I am overdue for another wash though, but you guys don't want to hear that either...  :-\

Take mine to the local hand wash for a fiver. ;D
They are brilliant, wash  by hand then liquid wax, and  wipe clean with fiber mittens.
Nice and shiny, without any marks at all. 8)

If there was one that looked like it could be trusted near me I'd go and give them a 100% tip every time to make sure quality didn't slip.

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't trust any local car wash with my car lol. I would have to carry out a full-point inspection everytime otherwise.

Like Bobmax I take mine to the local 'handwash'. It takes 15-30 minutes depending on the number of operatives. £6 inside and another £6 outside. Well worth £12 every 8 weeks or so for a brilliant job. I polish once a year immediately after an autumn wash. I'm convinced that this paid for wash lasts a lot longer than me doing it.

Mine is washed every 2/3 weeks wether it needs it or not, by me or the local Tesco store lads. I had waxed for life when I purchased it with Autoglym Life shine and wax it every 3 months or so, as I feel better.

I might add that the name of the car wash I go to is called.... "The best hand  car wash"  lol
and they certainly live up to their name.
I probably would've given them a miss if it hadn't been recommended by some of my friends.
Can't beat a recommend. ;)
