Interior Lights left on! Doh!
« on: March 16, 2015, 09:06:53 AM »
Well as some of you may have read in the i.c.e project section I fitted a dash cam on Friday, which by the way is superb.
Whilst fiddling (as we blokes do with any new toy) with said dash cam Friday evening I inadvertanly left 2 of the front interior lights on (why mazda didn't fit a warning buzzer I have no idea) When I returned to the car which was parked in the driveway 16 hrs later (11.30am) to take my good lady out for the afternoon the car was Dead! Flat! No Life! I was not a happy

12.15pm
For some reason this post/rant I posted this morning is missing over 3 1/4 of the actual post!!!!!!??????

Has there ever been a car with an interior lights on warning buzzer? Not being facetious just if there has it is news to me! Either way bad luck.

Might be just me thinking other cars I've driven have had them?? I know the Mercs we drive at work at the moment have a isolation switc which buzz's & cuts the battery power off if something is left on therefore saving the battery from draining.
Anyway sorter version of what I Posted this morning (which for some reason is missing?)
Rac came out, jumped started the car (Full RAC cover via insurance and my jump leads need replacing as not heavy duty) did a battery check he said the battery is still in good order apart from it showing it holds a low charge. Rac guy recommended getting a trickle charger that can also condition the battery and maintain its health The RAC  recommend a C-Tek MXS 3.8 12v battery charger this he said used regular maintains and prolongs the batteries life. Ordered one and it's on its way.

Cheers willpower it may have timed out by the time I  got to the end of my whinge and story. I did preview it twice for spelling ect before posting and it was all there, the majority of the post hasn't appeared, strange?! Well at least it saved you all an ear twisting about my inability to turn my interior lights off! This time I couldn't blame the kids!! They weren't around  ;D

Replace them with LED's

Little story from a few years ago. In the very early hours one February morning, I drove to Luton Airport and caught a flight to Paris. Four days later I returned to find that I had left one of my front map lights on. I could see it as I approached the car in the car park and groaned.  It had obviously been on for the entire period and thinking back, I could remember using the light before checking in to fly.
Thankfully I had previously fitted all Blue LED's and fingers crossed I tried to start the car. It fired up first time and I was able to drive home with no further drama.  Which just goes to prove two things.
a)   LED's use far less power than the original festoons  and b) You are not the only one to leave your lights on :)

And if they care to,  the story can be verified by another forum member.   :)

Do all the lighting functions still work with L.E.D.s installed? I.e. dimming down when you close the door followed by the fade out after a few seconds or is it on and off?

Although I have only replaced the centre interior light with a blue LED matching the colour of my car, it does dim just the same as the 2 near the interior mirror.
