A Couple of Problems?
« on: December 13, 2014, 04:15:54 PM »
I bought my first Mazda 3, a late 2011 1.6 Ts a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm really pleased with it.
There are a couple of things that may or may not be problems that I would welcome an opinion on from any existing owners. Intermittently the electric door mirrors run shortly after starting for no apparent reason and when opening any of the windows the seals do not clear either rain from the outside or mist from the inside. I've spoken to my dealer who says that both off these are things are normal on a Mazda, but none of my previous cars have done either of these things. Any thoughts?

The dealer is correct about the window seals but in 5 years I have never seen the mirrors move or fold unless I operate them.

Yip I agree with misar and the dealer.........my 2009 and my 2013 Mazda's have both had issues with misting up, particularly when it is very wet.

I have just bought a moisture absorpbing bag from Halfrauds for £10 and it seems to work a treat, you just leave it on the dash overnight and in the morning the windows are nice and clear  ;D

I'm puzzled by these misting up issues as I have never noticed even a hint of mist inside and have driven in plenty of heavy rain. Possibly because I leave climate control permanently on auto. Not sure which of the above posters have CC but if you do its a lot less trouble than moisture absorbing bags.

Thanks for all of your responses. I'm reassured that it isn't simply a case of faulty window seals. I'll give try the climate control on auto as misar suggests, I think this may be the solution.

A/C will solve the issue obviously as it removes moisture from the air. I can just about get away without A/C on a rainy day but only if there is only 1 person in the car and only for a bit, generally though it will mist up without A/C

Excessive misting up on the inner surfaces of the windows, can be attributed to a blocked pollen filter. Just a thought.

I have never had excessive misting issues with my car. Willpower might have a point, as I do replace my pollen filters every year without fail.

At this time of year I just leave my air-con on for a bit and it does de-mist pretty quickly. My previous Mazdas used to mist up as well but I discovered a decent glass cleaner seems to reduce the problem. Not seen those de-moisturising bags yet but I might investigate.

On the subject of the window seals, mine don't clear rain or condensation when wound down either but the front ones do sometimes seem to stick to the seals initially when I operate them. Any ideas on how to cure this?

A very light spray of WD40 in the window channels of the door frame.

Good thought Will, but I doubt it on a nearly new car which mine is  ;)

The AC will clear the misted windows very quickly and I still use it sometimes when it is raining heavily.
