Do I need to wax??
« on: October 12, 2013, 06:14:29 PM »
After taking delivery of my "new" 13 Reg Tamura yesterday (pics to follow when the weather improves!)  I decided it needed some paintwork protection, so it was down to Halford's this morning for some Autoglym shampoo, Super Resin Polish & Extra Gloss Protection. After spending the afternoon washing, polishing & applying the extra gloss protection (which says it includes waxes) I ran out of time (& weather) to think about applying any wax.  Is it really necessary after the aforementioned treatment?  (my aching shoulder says wait until next time!) . ;D

The car had been polished by the dealership before I collected it, but I can see a definite improvement after my afternoon's work.

Wax is a good sealant to help protect the paint. I would say next time you wash the car, do a good waxing. Rinse, wax and repeat every 3-4 months.

Well, I spent  5 hours over last weekend washing, polishing & applying another coat of gloss protector on the basis that the worst of the bad weather should be over & the rain had stopped beading some washes ago!   ::) The gloss protector certainly improves the shine, so to answer my own original question: You don't need to wax, but as an interim treatment, it's easier than polishing & then applying & buffing out gloss protector (i.e. do the polish/gloss protector a couple of times a year, and use one of the "easy application" waxes between).

Shiny ! . . .

Hello all. Just thought I would tell you this.
The cousin of a school mate was an engine driver in the good old days of steam. As the first step up the ladder was a cleaner he told me that they added a half cup of paraffin to the wash water buckets and after a few washes a coating of wax was eventually formed on the painted livery and subsequent washing down was much easier.
Anybody interested he was on LMS Duchess class locos running up the west coast over Shap.
