dreaded flashing DPF warning
« on: June 28, 2019, 02:18:12 PM »
driving round town yesterday and the warning symbol started flashing on the dash - car runs as well as ever and has never shown any DPF warnings previously to indicate it needed an exhaust regen.  It's a 2011 2.2 185 diesel, done 42k miles.  I've had the service overdue counter reset - it's serviced by main dealer every year - and given it a blast up the motorway at 4000rpm and also done it whilst on the drive at home.  It's still flashing!  Am I missing something obvious or do I need to bite the bullet and shell out for a new filter?

It may be worth running a bottle of Wynn's DPF cleaner through the tank before considering a full replacement. I don't know if they operate in your area but it may also be worth checking out 'DPF Doctor' too. I don't have any experience of them personality, but the reviews seem largely positive. Your mileage seems awfully low to be having problems, unless the car is rarely driven outside town.
So I was stood there trying to work out why the cricket ball was getting larger and larger...and then it hit me.

I can’t remember but doesn’t the DPF light flash for a stretched timing chain? I can’t remember which warning light / symbol was used for that. I think getting a fault code reader on it ASAP would be a good step

If I recall correctly it's the TCS light for that :)

I was wrong...nevermind!

DPF fault sorted - just needed a re-gen, which the garage "forced" - they reckon a steady run for 20 mins at 40mph would have been enough to do it instead of the mad dash up the motorway I was advised to do by the Mazda dealership.
