Seat Belt won't retract
« on: March 18, 2013, 02:48:37 PM »
My front drivers seat belt has decided not to automatically retract itself. It will go back with a little persuasion, but it appears now not to be strong enough to do it by itself.
Anybody have any ideas how to remedy this?
Many thanks

the only way to fix this is to fit a new belt.
there is no way to fix a seat belt with retraction problems.
i was lucky to get one off  *bay about a year ago very cheap for about £30.
the company i got it from no longer sells mazda parts which is a shame as i bought quite a few things from them.
if my memory is correct a new drivers belt from mazda was about £130 which i thought was expensive.

Thanks, Newbs
For that price I think I will just coax it back in each time.

We use good stuff at work made by tunap. You pull the belt all the way out and soak the belt in this spray. Run in back and forth a few times and usually it works a treat. its called tunap logic 104. Not sure if its available to retail but its definitely good stuff. Even smells nice too :D.

I too will be a customer.

Manufactured in Germany...http://www.tunap.com/en/ranges/automotive/products/p104.html

It appears to be sold to the trade mainly but as usual there is another source  ::)

Thanks very much for that. Just ordered a can from ebay, £5 plus £2 delivery. I'll let you know if it works.
Thanks again

Well I've cleaned both my front seat belts with Tunap 104 and it has made a difference. The belts don't whip back when you undo them but they certainly now retract by themselves. They feels cleaner and I can tell the tension difference across my shoulder when I am wearing the belt. A good buy for £5, thanks gazpot0111645.

Glad to hear that Pabs. Maybe with a few more treatments it may get better? At least now it is not a possible MOT failure.
