Gen 2 rust on the tailgate
« on: May 19, 2019, 08:58:55 AM »
I just noticed this today,It's the same on both sides between spolier/wing and metal/tailgate  :(

I hope it's surface rust only..has anyone had similar issue?

No I haven't,will do though.

Not 100% sure but pretty much because I tried to wash it and it won't come off.

To me that looks like a the border between proper paint and "body in white" prep coat on the interior panels. With the uniformity of it's not damage or anything of that nature.

What you can do about it is another matter as when I took mine in in relation to corrosion in the rear arches I was informed it has to be a hole and on an exterior panel..which excludes floors and wheel arches(!). Basically anywhere it's likely to rot..

I don't have time for proper fix,so I will treat roof with rust converter and leave it,as for the hatch(under spoiler/wing) I will sand,prep and paint it,as I'm thinking trading it in for a 2019 3  :)

Have you fixed yours ?

Not at this point as I was selling it anyway originally, instead it's staying on as my wife's car and family bus..and some corrosion in the rear arches will be the least of its problems at that point.

Also its not going down hill fast I keep the affected areas clean and coated in wax so it'll last as long as it needs to. I keep meaning to get it sorted..but I've kinda made my peace with it. If I wanted rid I could literally get another tomorrow but its currently a free car having been paid off ages ago so as long as she runs fine and is safe it's all good.
