Wiper arms/blades
« on: January 10, 2012, 11:22:56 PM »
Hey guys,
It appears that the UK spec Mazda 3 (BL) 2010 model gets a different wiper design to our Aussie cars.
We only get the retro skeleton style wiper blades/arms.
You lucky folk get the sleeker flat style ones.

I've only been able to scour up some small images of the front of the UK 2010 model that shows the wipers.
I've contacted some UK dealers and gotten prices for the parts to do the swapover so that's all good but I just had another look at the small images i've got and from what i can make out, it's only the blade that is different in design and thus requires no special arm - it looks like just the conventional reversed hook/J style arm.

I've searched on Halfords and wiperblades.co.uk. Halfords quotes 21" and 19" aero/flat blades with the clip type mechanism (European/VW style). Wiperblades.co.uk quotes 24" and 19" J hook blades that one would usually fit onto retro skeleton arms.

Can i trouble someone to take some big photos of their wipers (mainly shots from above) and tell me if the blade is attached with a J hook or a European style clip/pivot, and measure the blades for me.

I found that they worked better than the originals and the look of wiper blades isn't a concern for me  ;D. I also have a feeling that on the originals you just remove and replace the rubber bit everytime don't you? I find that a bit of a faf

no you can buy the wipers too but have been quoted £60 for new ones.

as for the fitment its the standard curved edge that looks like and elongated 'J' but i could be called a 'U' depending on how you look at it.

hmm by the sounds of it, the arms are identical to our aussie ones so no point in buying another set for 120gbp..
might aswell just buy the UK wipers for 60gbp and fit them to the current arms

thanks everyone for your responses
so far, saved me a bit of $$
can someone take some photos of the original wiper blades/arms? so i can compare then decide what bits i need? :)
