2.2 engine
« on: January 04, 2021, 11:49:41 AM »
Hello All,
I have never had a more responsive engine than my 15plate Mazda 3.
Im looking to update it for newer model,I like the new shape, so it will be a 19 plate or newer that I go for, but as we know, the 2.2 engine no longer available.
How many of you are happy to recommend the 180hp
2ltr engine please.
Many thanks.

Having owned a 120ps 2.0 petrol Mazda 3, a 175ps 2.2 Diesel Mazda 6, and two 2.2 diesel Mazda CX-5s (a 175ps AWD and a 150ps FWD) I'd say you'll miss the torque of the diesel, but will like the silence and refinement of the petrol.

Does your usage pattern warrant a diesel?  Given the problems associated with using modern diesel-engined cars for repeated short trips from cold and little longer-distance driving, unless you go caravaning (not at the moment!), a petrol-engined car is often the far better choice, especially as their mpg is improving to much nearer that of diesels than in the past.

Personally, if you like your 15-plate car and it's working fine, keep it until the fog clear as regards the current uncertain times - both for the car-makers and especially yourself (job/financially-wise), as in my view, 2021 will be a LOT worse than 2020 because many of the pain has been postponed by government handouts and firms furloughing staff or taking out loans to survive.
