2010 Takuya Mirror motor keeps on running
« on: December 27, 2017, 06:49:20 PM »
Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help.

Other half came home today and said passenger side mirror motor would not stop. She took it to the nearest garage who disconnected mirror as they said it would drain battery. Before I put it into garage for them to investigate I was just wondering if anyone in the forum can shed some light on what could be the problem.

Have not stripped mirror yet myself as it is dark when I finish work but would be grateful if someone could give me some pointers on what could be wrong and I will have a look at the weekend.

Many thanks.

It's an odd one, did the mirrors work at all times regardless of key position?

The power to the mirrors and drivers side window is meant to stay on for about a minute then cut. You would think that would stop the motor even if it was running all the time the engine was on. That would rule out a faulty switch panel to me, although if the drivers side is connected and works fine that would also rule it out.

Had a quick look at mine to see if I could see a relay, as a stuck one would have been my guess..didn't see one. Did spot there is a fuse specifically for power mirrors in the panel so hope they've just pulled that rather than disconnecting the loom somewhere.

Hi Steven, thanks for your reply.

Had another word with the wife and she said noise started when she turned on the ignition and pressed button to unfold mirrors, drivers side was ok but passenger side motor kept running. She took it to the garage who took small triangular panel off and unplugged mirror to stop motor burning out. Driver side mirror is ok and functions as it should.

Mirrors would only work if ignition was turned on (I think).

I have ordered a new switch so will try that to see if it sorts the problem.

Hi
Was the car frozen when this happened? Maybe something has snapped when you unfolded the mirrors from cold. Just a thought
I have that happen on previous cars but with the windows not mirrors.

Out of interest did folding them back in stop the motor running? It sounds like they've pulled the fuse in the passenger side fuse box.

Personally I'm not thinking switch simply because it would affect both sides.

There must be something that tells the motor to stop running when it reaches full retraction and extension. I imagine there will be a tab on a gear in the folding mechanism that clicks a micro switch or something of that nature. That would be my thoughts as to where the problem lay especially if can be folded in and it stops the motor.

Not sure if folding it back stopped motor as I wasn't there but she is sure they took cover off and unplugged joint going through door to mirror, driver side still works with switch. I was needing to get a driver side window switch anyway and as mirror switch is part of it decided to order one. Hoping to get a proper look at it this weekend as it is too dark when I get home from work just now.

Well replaced switch and problem still there  :-[

Motor does stop after about 30 sec when ignition is switched off but keeps running when ignition on or engine running.

Have tried folding in and fully opening mirror but motor still runs.

How easy is it to remove glass so I can get a look at motor?

My money is still on broken tab or micro switch in the folding assembly.
