Just changed key fob battery - can't get car to start.
« on: September 22, 2021, 12:40:03 PM »
It is just sitting there. Not doing anything at all. I've tried pressing the fob on the start button. Nothing.

There was a dash warning about a low battery the other day, but I'm sure it was for the key and not the car battery.

Anyone else had this?

a while back I changed the fob battery after the same message and it wouldn't work afterwards  - firstly, the handbook showed the wrong size battery (I got the correct size from the old one) and I then put the new battery in upside down - just a thought.

Well, turns out that someone hadn't actually turned it off the last time they used it!

Parked on a tight driveway with another car parked directly behind it.

It took ages to figure it out, but the drop in the range was a bit of a giveaway.

Now I can't get i-Stop to stop flashing. Despite the RAC guy saying the battery is fine.

Well, all sorted now. A cell in the battery had died.

Not sure if it was when the battery ran flat or if it is something that has gone undetected for a while.
I-stop kicked in the other day and I suddenly realised it hadn't worked in a year or so!

The garage hooked it up to a computer. Lots of error codes. But the good news was that they all were related to the battery.
New battery, not a single error. The guy in the garage said it was like a brand new car :)

The battery (a genuine Mazda one, as per the original factory fitted one) was 114 quid - I thought they used to be more than that?

Unexpected expense but I'm very happy it has been sorted.
