Questions before buying
« on: January 29, 2024, 09:08:48 PM »
New potential owner here, hello.
Previously owned a cx3, wife lived it but I found the 2.0 litre engine noisy and not very powerful, and the boot was non existent due to the subwoofer, but I digress!
Looking at a 19/20 model and edging towards the skyactive x model, gt sport. Not test driven either yet but always
open to advice.
Are there any specifics to look out for, as I've read they sound like a diesel on start up, but that was an Australian site. Also I believe there was a software update to deal with a flat spot at low revs? If so how would I check it's been done?
Love to hear stories as it looks a beautiful car, 1 of the best out there.
Thank you

I bought a Skyactiv X GT Sport about 3 months ago on a 69 plate with only 9k on the clock. They are beautiful cars but you must make sure it's had a software update done to prevent parasitic battery drain and have the battery checked before you buy. There is a problem on the climate control system not properly shutting down after you leave the car and it flattens the battery repeatedly until it's knackered. This issue affected some early Skyactiv X cars from late 2019 to early 2021. I insisted this was checked on my car before purchase from the dealer and lo and behold the battery needed replacing as well as the software update which does stop the problem happening again. A few early Skyactiv X cars also had a coil pack problem so get this checked too as the acceleration won't feel right if this is faulty.

As for the engine sounding like a diesel it does a little bit for a short period when warming up but it's not something i find annoying. The car is lovely to drive and the interior quality is up there with the best however it does have piano black trim around the centre console which can scratch easily if not looked after. I love driving mine, it's not hot hatch territory but to be honest it has enough power for me.

Mine is machine grey with the burgundy red leather interior option. Quite a smart combination.

Nice, did you drive both engines, if so, is the difference worth the extra?
Looking forward, will keep you updated, cheers

I drove the Skyactiv G version a long time before the Skyactiv X just after launch in 2019. Both cars are equally great to drive but the Skyactiv G is not as quick as the X. Generally the G engined cars are also cheaper to buy and insure.
