2.2d 6th Service
« on: January 04, 2018, 02:49:28 PM »
Hi All,

I've been reading a few posts on here around Mazda 3's and an expensive 6 year service.

I have just been quoted £970 by Underwoods in Colchester for this work, which compared to others on here seems steep (that's with a 10% discount apparently).

The lady on the phone did call as I had wrongly been given paperwork when I purchased in April 2017 that said a 5th service was next. She advised that fuel injectors would be changed but didn't elaborate on anything else.

Any ideas if this is a reasonable price or not?

Thanks in advance,

PT

If I recall correctly the fuel injectors are removed and inspected, the pipes leading to them and the single use washers that seal them are replaced. Seem to recall the top of the engine comes off and the rocker cover gasket is replaced as well. 970 seems a lot, most people seem to cringe at the 6-700 it usually comes out at.

Thanks for the reply Steven.

£600-£700 I would be OK with from a main dealer. I have contacted Donalds Mazda in Ipswich for them to provide a quote on the same work.

I had a look at the Scheduled Maintenance plan on the other sub-forum and saw it showed the Injectors as Inspection only so confused why I've been told they'll be replaced.

Will keep you posted!

Donalds Mazda came back with a quote for £1,100 :-\

I still don't understand how this price is so high as a service plan I was offered totalled £958.00 for 3 services...hindsight is a lovely thing.

Any advice that can be offered is appreciated.

Thanks.

It may be they've put their prices up, but that still seems extreme. If they do actually replace the injectors now rather than inspect that would explain the cost. Are there any other dealers in the area you can try?

I'm going to give Southend Mazda a call tomorrow to see what their pricing is like.

Incidentally, I also need to call up Mazda Used Warranty again tomorrow as well - they've only had it for about 18 days since I bought it in April - lets see if I can make it any higher!

Spoke to Underwoods Mazda today and had a really good result on this.

Got through to a lovely lady and explained the situation to her, and mentioned around the service plan amount being less than this single service. She looked at the quote (despite it being done 9 months ago) and said the fuel injectors cost wasn't on the quote for Service 6 on the service plan quote.

Anyway, got a call back from the same lady and the servicing manager agreed to leave (what they now calling) valve clearance work till Service 7 - possibly to do with the low mileage on my vehicle.

Cost now a much more reasonable £423! :)

Side Note: Mazda Warranty said my issue is to do with my last warranty work - so just to pre-warn my dealer when I drop the vehicle off for its service and they can take a look.

Happy Friday!

I’m not saying that this is the correct course of action but when I was confronted with this issue some time ago I spoke to my local mazda specialist and they weren’t too bothered. That was about 5 years and 60000 miles ago and so far it’s not caused any I’ll effects. I don’t know if the cost from mazda is because of amount of labour involved accessing the injector or whether it’s just stupidly priced parts which they are certainly guilty of at times

hi xp13476 in the service manual for mine it says audibly inspect every 75000 miles ,if noisy, adjust. that's for the petrol but if your valves are not noisy why would you take the head off to inspect them seems crazy. The £1100 service price seems crazy from donalds ,love to know what that covered. After  bad service at donalds I go to wrights mazda beccles and Norwich now, I cant fault them.

Thank you for the additional feedback cwilliams255 and speedy mazda.

I think going forward I'll use my local dealer (since I seem to get a 10% discount) up to service 8 and then go to a nearer private garage. Considering I have done 12,000 miles since the end of April that might all be sooner rather than later! Am going to enquire about a service plan for the 7th and 8th services though to spread the cost a bit better :)

Thanks,

PT
