What are these sensors on the windscreen?
« on: April 06, 2017, 07:01:34 PM »
Hi all - My wife picked up a 2014 Mazda 3 today, she loves it!

I wanted to ask what the sensors are for on the windscreen.  I'm guessing the one on the left is for the rain sensing wipers, but what are the stereo lenses and the one below that ??

Suggestions would be lane departure system, auto high beam sensor, radar cruise control, smart city braking.

Thanks.

The vehicle settings mention something about Smart City Braking but it said something about "compatibility", so how do I know it definitely has this?

I doubt it has lane departure or radar cruise (again, how do I find out?).  Unsure about high beam sensor (or what this is).

All Mazda 3's since 2014 have Smart City Braking.  The headlight sensor is for Auto main/dipped headlights but not all have this.

Is there a way to test city brake apart from driving into something? :D
For example...The Volvo I had previously had City braking, and the the Sales Garage had a plastic pop up device that when driven at the city brake would take effect.
Obviously the plastic device would pop forward if it didn't work, but it did work so no problem.. It did feel a bit hairy though  :o

I wouldn't recommend running the risk of testing the smart city braking as it really is last inch. Having said that it did kick in on me once as I was fighting with cross bumper to bumper traffic trying to cut in on those annoying f***ers that block through traffic at a set of traffic lights and it scared the crap out of me and the wife when it kicked in. lol. We thought the crossing 4x4 had caught on our bumper and ripped it right off or something. So it does work...
