Well I worked in insurance for many years for my sins though not now and while it may work on plod it won't work on your company.

What they'll do is when you make a claim they will ask for a copy of your drivers license and V5..they will then ask you why they don't match, and if they aren't happy with that answer they will void your policy back to inception (in some cases several years!) Then refund your money. Which doesn't sound too bad until you realise your probably going to end up with an IN10 (which not only comes with a fine and the possibility of your car being crushed but puts up your insurance for the next 10 years and must be declared to any insurance company along with the voidance) and are fully liable for the costs of the claim.

If it's goes wrong it's not pretty.

The question is usually "where is the vehicle kept over night?"

Insurance is generally not a place for creative interpretation of anything. Not being harsh but if you do this kinda thing they are going to burn you down and let the police sweep you up if you have a claim and stuff isn't in order.

Wasn't implying you were currently doing it but if someone were to stumble upon this thread via Google e.t.c. then I don't want to leave any doubt as to the possible consequences.  ;D

I suspect your original contact with the police would have been down to ANPR related "intelligence". Most of the major crimes in the area I live in seems to be committed by Liverpool scum bags who appear to commute. Intelligence gathered from ANPR could have highlighted your car as being dislocated, so possibly either stolen, cloned, or on regular crime away days.

Giving false information to your insurer leaves you open to being done for fraud, and I'd be surprised if they'd refund your premiums.

I've had the dubious pleasure of experiencing this the other way round. My insurer changed information I'd given them, and refused to correct their errors, even when I elevated my complaint to CEO level. I took my case to the FOS, won it, had all my premiums refunded plus compensation on top.

Depends on the company regards the refund the ones we used to work with would just cancel it back to inception like it didn't exist but not all are so "nice" about it.
