Mazda 3 2.2 185hp Turbo broken?
« on: April 06, 2022, 11:43:27 AM »
Hi everyone, I've got a 2011 mazda 3 2.2 185hp. It has about 150k miles. Recently the engine management light has come on coupled with the abs light, about a week later, the car suddenly has a lack of power. It was almost as if the turbo had stop working. So we had a mobile mechanic come look at it and he said the wastegate actuator had gone, and because you can't replace the actuator without having a new turbo, we'd need to buy a whole new turbo. For a refurbished twin turbo is £500. Does anyone have any idea or advice about this situation?

this is the issue with turbos they are cheap to replace when they go wrong, I had one go on my Passat I found a hybrid turbo on darkside developments website for similar price to the standard recon turbo, slight increase in response and a few extra ponies for the less than a bottle of rum so I did, not sure if there is anything along the lines of that for mazda's as darkside are mainly VAG and BMW

I know a guy in work has just replaced his on his Mondeo with one from a breakers with no issues think that cost him a couple of hundred but nearly the same in fitting

obvouisly recon you do not need to declare it hybrid you should
and I'm out of here

Thank you for the response, I think that's the single turbo and I belive my mechanic told me it was the twin turbo, but the single turbo said it would do a 185hp, so why does mine have a twin turbo? I'm really confused.

from my very limited Mazda knowledge I didn't think there was a bi-turbo option in 2011, I would recommend dropping these guys a message https://www.turbotechnics.com/oem-services/ they have been dealing with turbos more years than I have been alive
