Some years ago when I fitted a Tuning Box to my 1.6D I did some research and  came to the same conclusion as Willpower.

Finding insurance was a bit of a pain. The comparison web sites were useless (at that time, now??) At least now they will attempts to get quotes for you. http://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/modified-cars/

Approaching the Insurance Companies direct seemed the only way to tackle the problem. Some did not want to know. Some quoted huge increases in premiums. A couple asked for copious details and promised to get their underwriters to come up with a quote. None of those ever called back.

Then I looked for "Modified car Insurance" specialists. RESULT!!

I got a quote for less than my previous insurance from Adrian Flux. They have remained competitive through several renewals.

As with so many other buying decisions this is a purchase where it pays to shop around.

When i applied online via the comparison websites i could choose modification options such as brakes, steering, body kit, exhaust etc...the only option that came close to a remap was the engine/ecu modification.

I ticked this and Admiral came up in the results but when i rang and told them they said that a remap was not covered under the ecu option

It also seems to be a discretionary option too - when i rang LV & said i had a remap he put me on hold and spoke to his manager - he then came back and said yes we will offer you cover
