Cam belt or cam chain??

Does anyone know for certain which the MX-5 is blessed with? (New model and previous ones)
Car history: 1. 'E' reg MG Turbo Metro; 2. '51' plate Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique; 3. '53' plate Renault Clio 172 Cup; 4. 'T' reg Escort 1600 Finesse; 5. 'N' reg BMW 323i coupe; 6. 'Y' reg Renault Clio 2.0l sport; 7. 'T' reg BMW 323i se saloon; 8. '55' plate Mazda 3 2.0l sport saloon.

I can confirm that the marks 1, 2 and 2.5 are  definitely a cambelt and it needs to be changed every 55000 miles.

I think the mark 3 is the same but hopefully someone will confirm that.

From what I have read, the Mk III appears to be fitted with a chain....

I can confirm that the marks 1, 2 and 2.5 are  definitely a cambelt and it needs to be changed every 55000 miles.

I think the mark 3 is the same but hopefully someone will confirm that.

I always change at 2/3 recomended time to play safe.

It doesnt matter on these engines anyway.. they are non-interference!
