Refugee from Saab here
« on: September 14, 2017, 05:24:05 PM »
My Saab convertible is shuffling off its mortal coil and I have to say after 110000 miles it was fantastic for me.

BUT......now have Mazda sports nav 2017 Auto and after drive testing several cars found this the best and I am delighted!

So hello and look forward to tips and advice in the future.

My only grumble......yes, the lack of spare!

My question....what is the best value/useful accessory to enhance the car?

"what is the best value/useful accessory to enhance the car?" Spare wheel. Even at the extortionate price charged by a Mazda dealer for the kit (sparewheel+ tyre, jack, wheelbrace, replacement bootfloor/carpet) it's probably the same cost as three replacement tyres, and a lot more convenient.

What model SAAB did you have and what year? 110000 miles seems very young.

Cheers!

Saab 93 anniversary vector diesel auto
Really good spec..leather, sat nav etc

My wife will keep it but as I do a lot of  motorway runs I just don't trust it.

Wheel....oh well I just will have to fork out.

Do you really need the foamy surround?

Ah. A GM SAAB!

My SAABs were a 1969 V4 96 and a 1976 99L. Both brilliant cars that I parted with on around 150000. Not trusting a SAAB would have been tantamount to heresy when I had mine but with GM.......

The spare reduces the boot depth by about 2 - 3 inches, which is a bit of a bummer, but not critical for me.

There are a few threads on here regarding the spare wheel issue. Whether you choose to pay Mazda £450 for the whole kit or source the bits yourself is up to you and your wallet. I've no idea on the potential savings and whether it's worth the hassle.

The foamy surround stops the floor from flopping essentially, so you need something.

When I ordered my 3 Navsport in Jan 2014 I asked for the spare wheel and kit. The salesman phoned the spares dept and asked the cost of this item and let me have it at that price saving me several hundred £s. No real skin off their nose. So my tip is when buying new is to get them to either throw it in or sell it at trade price.
