Are you sitting comfortably
« on: March 30, 2017, 04:14:17 PM »
:o    Here's one to make your eyes water (pun intended)

When my car went through it's MOT in January it passed quite happily. But the garage said to me " Oh by the way one of your washer jets is a bit weak"

Well as the warmer weather (and flies) are approaching, I thought,  might as well get it sorted.  I checked all the pipes, removed the washer jet from the bonnet and after some judicious prodding and poking, could not get it to perform any better. So off I went to my Mazda dealers parts department.

Now comes the eye watering bit  £14.07+vat  for a single washer jet ! ! ! !   jeez!

So the moral of this story, is look after your washer jets   ;D ;D

You've been away from the dealer network for too long, when wipers cost 50 quid and brake discs and pads before fitting come to 333...then a washer jet can cost 14 quid.

One of those moments you're glad parts don't break very often.

You're right Steve.  And now I remember why I don't go there any more than I have to.  :)

Hi willpower could you not take a trip to your local scrapyard there must be loads of mazda 3 saloon cars in there of your year .I'm sure the hatchback 3s have the same jets too .we had some monkeys pull ours off our Nissan  they pulled the jet off and pipes.I replaced them from the scrapyard.

I did go to the scrappy first.  When I got there I couldn't find a single 3.  I spoke to the guy there who said he hadn't seen one in over a year.  On the upside that's got to be good in one way or another.
So yes I took my own advice first, but to no avail this time.  Thanks for the thought tho'  :)

Unblock windscreen washer jets
« Reply #5 on: April 05, 2017, 12:18:07 AM »
Loads of things get pushed into washer jets to try and clear them but the best I've found is monofilament fishing line. Stiff 20lb/0.4mm line is a tight enough fit to clear the nozzles on my old (2005) car - I haven't looked all that closely at the new one yet. The great advantage of fishing line is it will neither damage the jets nor snap off inside the jet.
If the jets still don't clear properly, you need to clear from the inlet side. I've not taken one of these apart, but there seems to be a spring and ball non return valve built into the back of the nozzle. You should be able to clear this by giving it a good poke with something flexible enough to get round the bend and stiff enough to poke the ball out of its seat. Thin strimmer cord or a bristle from a sweeping brush should do the trick. It's best done with the nozzle submerged in fairly hot water and it takes a bit of time and patience to dislodge and drain the accumulated goo.
But it could save you £14.07 + vat per jet!

LOL   Been there done that.  Thanks for your tip, but after about 15 minutes of prodding and pushing the fishing line in an out from both ends it had no effect. I think it must have been the result of 13 years of muck in there that was stopping it from clearing. I lost patience and gave up.

Useful tip for others in the same boat though Thanks :)
