Headlights, after market vs OEM
« on: February 19, 2017, 02:02:50 PM »
I have a 2015 with a slight crack inside the passenger side headlight, one of those things so it's not covered by warranty. It's starting to get a bit of water {condensation more than anything} inside the unit now, so I took it to the Dealer and he wanted near £600 to fit a new unit, just the unit, not the bulbs or anything. He quoted me £385 plus VAT for the unit, plus fitting, seems outrageous to me, so...

I checked the www to find after market units for a good bit less than half price, obviously I would still need to have it fitted but a local auto electric's guy says he can do the fitting for £50.

I did a quick search of the salvage guys, and got the quote below from Hills Recycling...

£375.00 - HEADLIGHT/HEADLAMP XENON (PSNGR SIDE): 3 months guarantee [Used]
£ 6.95 - Delivery:
£ 76.39 - VAT:
£458.34 (Inc. Delivery & VAT) - QUOTE TOTAL:

The less I say about that the better.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts re after market headlight units ? or if anyone knows of a recycler who's prices are realistic.

Bob.

Thanks for the link, appreciated, I've listed the headlight unit on there.

Just wondering if recyclers are looking for almost the same price as Dealers these days ?
going off what Hills were asking it seems that way  :o

I now have a choice between a recycled headlight unit for £320 or an after market unit for £290, not much in the price, just wondering if after market units are any good ? I'd appreciate comments from anyone who's used after market lamp units.

Personally I'd pay the extra 30 quid for an OEM unit even second hand. Never used an aftermarket headlamp unit but previous experience with bumpers and panels suggests they won't fit quite right and need finessing round brackets e.t.c.
