Anyone used Barum Braverus HM3? (Or have suggestions)
« on: June 11, 2016, 09:09:28 AM »
My tyres have been hanging on since I got the car, the front toyos had 4.5mm two years ago...they have 3.9 now rears are a set of Landsails (ugh!) the garage decided to bin the rear toyos the car had when I viewed it on. Theoretically I can probably make them last another year with a swap, but I feel like I'm making allowances in bad weather for the tyres, also it's getting to the point where a cambered back road is a fight with the car so I'm thinking bin all 4.

Was going to get Goodyear EfficientGrip performance but TBH noticed the Barums have won a budget tyre group test and would save a hundred quid to put towards new discs for the front so wondering if any one had previously used them or had any suggestions?

I look at it this way.  The ONLY part of your car in contact with the road is the tyre footprint. If for the purposes of saving a hundred quid you are prepared to put your life in the hands(tread) of a budget tyre then go ahead.
Putting the money saved into a new set of discs is not go to save you if the tyre tread breaks away from the road surface.

We aren't talking low end budget tyres (if I wanted linglong gutter seekers they would be a lot less) they are effectively continentals cheaper brand they are equivalent driving performance to the Goodyear. But in terms of rolling resistance and noise they are worse than the Goodyear, and as the 3 does seem to be sensitive to the tyres it's on I was wondering if anyone had tried them.

Although now that I've spotted their rolling noise is 3db more than the Goodyear or 4 more than a Dunlop blusport I think I may be back to the drawing board.

Also the RE. brakes I'm not running around with no brakes, I have plenty of pad left and they shaved the wear ridges off at the last service and they haven't returned but they are on my to-do list under "soon" given the factory discs have done 51k now and Mazda said the were within tolerance but not brilliant either. Given how slowly my tyres wear you can probably guess my brakes also don't get an immense amount of stick usually so again last a long time...

My summer tyres are barums on the front and falkens on the back , have had no problems with them at all and this is my second summer with them. I  think they are made by Continental if I remember correctly.

Right, after some deliberation I have bought a set of Goodyears. They arrive Saturday, had them on a previous car and they were good so decided better the devil I know.

Given this is my front right tyre anything would be an improvement at this point...note it still hasn't reached the treadwear markers but the random bit of metal along with nearly binning it a few weeks ago was the last straw.
