Standard H.I.D.'s ?
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:10:00 AM »
I now have a 2010 Sport 2.0, the standard headlights in my previous 2004 were H.I.D's, the ones in the new car aren't,
is this normal for this year, were they an option?, and is it possible to swap from one model to another?

I have HID on my 2009 sport but I'm not sure they were ever offered as an option. My car was owned by a dealer as a demo before I bought it. I've only ever seen 1 other 3 with HID's so I would imagine they are hard to find

My 2009 150 Sport had after market H.I.D.'s which I fitted myself and I have fitted them to my 2013 185 Sport Nav as well  ;D

I don't think H.I.D.'s were ever fitted as standard on any of the 3's?

The first Sports models up to 2007 were fitted with Xenon HID lights as standard. I have them.

I changed mine from halogen to LEDs except for the fog light which I changed to a 3000k halogen. The results are night and day.

My 2009 2.0D sport has xenons as standard. Maybe because  it was near the end of the gen1 cars?  It has the auto levelling system and washers as required by the mot. I am sure the debate will continue about whether these are required for the retro fitted H.I.Ds.

I'm sure it will. There are plenty of threads on this forum discussing this conundrum.   As far as I'm concerned the laws stating the requirements for either OEM or indeed aftermarket HID is quite clear.
They say that all HID lights should be self levelling and have washing capability.  However if anyone wishes to continue the discussion could you please take it up in a relevant thread instead of just diluting the subject here as well.

A good point Neil. I think it was their intention to cease fitting them on the change over to Gen 2. But I fancy there was some input from the accountants also. Trying to keep the cost down on the run out of the Gen 1 models so they were sold before the Gen 2 arrived the following year.

Since I'm pretty confident mine are genuine Mazda on a MK2 like you are after (they are self levelling, have cornering functionality and washers) I will see if I can see any part numbers on them as surely they must carry spares

Xenons were offered on the Sport Models of the 1st batch of MK2 models. But later Mazda decided to keep costs to a minimum by taking off that feature.. not sure why. Similarly how they had scrapped the saloon model off the UK Market.
