Current range 2009 onwards cruise control....
« on: April 20, 2013, 07:18:40 PM »
Does the current range Mazda3 S & TS have available an aftermarket cruise control, looks ike our budget at the moment can't quite stretch to a TS2, cant seem to locate anything concrete, maybe someone in the know can help.

Nice to be back on the forums after working abroad for a few years.

Hi mazda3-mike,

Welcome Home. Good to see you back. I had delayed my response in the hope that someone who actually knows the facts turns up. Will we both be out of luck? Perhaps they will respond soon.

As I suspect you may recall from your previous involvement with the Forum there was a lot of discussion on adding Cruise Control to the first gen Mazda3. It turned out to be easy for the Petrol engines but the Diesels were never cracked in spite of the fact that we found Mazda training materials on the web for the launch of the Facelifted models that stated that the Diesels had CC. Mazda UK did not offer one for sale here. It seems to me that if a First Gen TS2 model was advertised with CC then the lower models had the wiring and ECU capability. All that was needed was to change a foot pedal switch to use the wiring already in place and fit/plug in the steering wheel control buttons.

Now both second gen Diesels and Petrol models come with CC ..... so it may be possible to upgrade to CC by a similar exercise. Unfortunately I have yet to see anyone reporting the attempt. My guess is that it should be possible. Just do not expect a Mazda dealer to volunteer the information. At the height of the fashion to add CC to petrol models people were being told that it could not be done even though the enquirer purchased the parts from the same Dealer and fitted them successfully. It might be worth placing an enquiry with one of the On Line parts Breakers networks to see if you can pick up the TS2/Venture Steering wheel switches and brake switch for a reasonable price. That would make the experiment possible. Try: http://www.bradgate-motors.co.uk/bradgate.php http://www.1stchoice.co.uk/ http://www.247spares.co.uk/mazda/3

Aftermarket CC kits for a drive by wire engine are available from a few suppliers if you Google for them. They are not cheap unfortunately. I have no idea if anyone on the forum has used this supplier. http://www.howard-may.co.uk/18206/index.html#top

I hope you manage to find a good solution to your CC quest.

Thanks, so what are the clusters of switches on the right hand side? Any idea of prices I was hoping to visit the dealers today but something came up.

Thanks gazpot0111645 you have come up trumps again.

It is good to see that Mazda have added CC as an optional accessory for the second gen models.

Those who wish to fit it as a DIY project can save a few pounds by buying on line e.g.http://www.car-accessories.uk.com/cruise-control-283-c.asp

That should help mazda3-mike achieve his goals.
